About Us

The Foundation for the Study of the Biodiversity of the South Pacific of Costa Rica (BioSur), is a Costa Rican non-profit organization. This entity is located in the Osa Peninsula, in Puerto Jiménez de Golfito, in the province of Puntarenas. It is dedicated to maintaining and safeguarding the biodiversity of the last Tropical Rainforest of the Central American Pacific, home to 3% of the world’s biodiversity.


BioSur makes available to researchers, students and volunteers, entomological laboratories with a collection of more than 8000 insects and 55 hectares of protected rainforest, promoting scientific research, preservation of biodiversity and conservation of the region’s ecosystems. In addition, we are working on the creation of the first Museum Center, in our community, which will publicize the natural wealth of our territory and bio-literate to raise awareness about the importance of the conservation of the tropical rainforest.
